June 8, 2026. An Inter-Provincial Agricultural Market Linkage Meeting was successfully conducted in Birendranagar, Surkhet.

The meeting was organized by Surkhet Agricultural Market Management Committee (SAMMC) in Saewcc-Nepal under the initiative of the International Labour Organization (ILO) through the European Union–United Nations (EU-UN) “Empowered Women, Prosperous Nepal (EWPN)” Program.
The meeting brought together representatives from the Agricultural Market Management Committees of Surkhet, Attariya, and Kohalpur, along with bulk buyers, cooperatives, local government representatives, and development partners. A total of 44 participants attended the program.
The meeting at was to strengthen business relationships among agricultural markets across Karnali, Sudurpaschim, and Lumbini Provinces. Participants shared information on market operations, seasonal commodity transactions, demand and supply trends, and opportunities for inter-provincial trade collaboration.
During the discussions, participants highlighted key challenges affecting agricultural marketing, including low production volumes, price fluctuations, inadequate grading and packaging, lack of storage facilities, high transportation costs, and limited market information. The need for market-oriented production, improved product quality, and stronger coordination among stakeholders was emphasized.

Representatives from the three market management committees presented their market status and explored opportunities for collaboration in the trade of major agricultural commodities such as vegetables, potatoes, and citrus fruits. Stakeholders also stressed the importance of promoting local and organic products and reducing dependency on imported agricultural goods.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Agricultural Market Management Committees of Surkhet, Attariya, and Kohalpur during the meeting. The agreement focuses on sharing market information, supporting joint marketing initiatives, promoting indigenous and organic products, participating in agricultural fairs, and strengthening inter-provincial market coordination.

The meeting concluded with a strong commitment from all stakeholders to enhance agricultural market linkages, improve market efficiency, and create better business opportunities for farmers, cooperatives, traders, and market institutions across the three provinces.
